About 11.5 out of 10,000 people are victims of burglary or other property crimes annually (US Department of Justice, FBI, 2019). There is one burglary every 13 seconds. 41 percent of burglars say that their decision was impulsive because they saw an opportunity.

Burglary happens.

Yet, the New York Times reports only about 30 percent of American households have some kind of security system protection. Since over 70% of burglaries are committed against residential properties over commercial properties, homeowners and renters are particularly vulnerable.

Here’s why we at California Metro Patrol encourages you to consider a home security system.

1. Keeping your family safe.

It goes without saying that protecting your family is a priority. Security systems can alert you to potential danger and deter intruders from entering your home. Video monitoring systems along with alarm systems provide you a way to take quick action; often these systems will alert the local police department or security company.

2. Protect your possessions and investments.

You should be safe in your home and sanctuary. The things in it are valuable, whether family heirlooms or high-tech devices, your possessions should be safe. The security industry reports that between 2.7 and 3.5 homes without some type of security system are more likely to be broken into. In addition to secure window locks, door deadbolts and other “low tech” security measures, you can reduce your risk to about 1 in 250 with a home security system.

3. Peace of mind.

Although nothing is 100 percent fool-proof, a good home security system can provide you with the peace of mind. This comes from knowing your home is protected and monitored with a system that reduces crime risk in and around your property – whether you’re at home or not.

Visible home security system components outside is one of the best burglary deterrents. A University of North Carolina study reports that 80 percent of burglars look for an alarm before deciding on going through with the burglary. 60 percent said if they did find an alarm, they would go elsewhere.

These are just a few of the important reasons we encourage you to consider a home security system, whether you rent or own your home. Again, no security system will protect you 100 percent of the time, but you are less likely to become a victim of burglary, and even more so with a posted security sign in front of your home.

With a quick click, you can start reducing the dangers and increasing your home security and peace of mind. We’re here to help!
